Privacy Policy
Short version: FocusFlow stores all your data locally in your browser. We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal information. Nothing leaves your device.
What data FocusFlow stores
FocusFlow stores the following information exclusively in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local):
- The task description you type into the extension popup
- Your focus session start time
- Time spent on each website domain (aggregated daily totals)
- Your list of productive and distracting sites
- Whether the overlay widget is minimized
Browsing history and tab data
FocusFlow reads the active tab's URL to measure time spent on different domains. This information is:
- Processed entirely within the extension's background service worker
- Aggregated by domain name only (e.g. github.com) — full URLs, page titles, and search queries are never recorded
- Stored locally as daily totals and automatically keyed by date
- Never sent to any remote server or third party
What we do not collect
- No names, email addresses, or account information
- No full URLs, page content, or search queries
- No location data
- No device identifiers
- No cookies or cross-site tracking
- No analytics or telemetry of any kind
- No data sold or shared with advertisers or third parties
Permissions used and why
FocusFlow requests the following Chrome permissions:
- storage — to save your session, task, and site-time data locally in your browser
- tabs & activeTab — to read the domain of your active tab and track focus time
- scripting — to inject the small focus overlay widget onto web pages
- alarms — to periodically save your daily stats to local storage
- host_permissions (<all_urls>) — to display the overlay widget on all sites you visit during a session
No permission is used to transmit data externally.
Data retention and deletion
Daily usage statistics are stored under a date-keyed entry (e.g. stats_2026-06-19). You can clear all data at any time by:
- Removing the FocusFlow extension from Chrome, which deletes all local storage
- Using Chrome's built-in extension storage clear option at
chrome://settings/content/all
Children's privacy
FocusFlow does not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. The extension does not collect personal data from any user regardless of age.
Changes to this policy
If we make any changes to this privacy policy, the updated version will be posted on this page with a revised effective date. Continued use of the extension after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
